Meet our Executive Committee

Recently, I returned to the States to lead Barclaycard US amid major change in the credit card industry. By focusing on the needs of our customers, we aim to broaden our range of payment products.

As Global Cards Head, my responsibility is to share the wealth of skills, experience and systems within Barclaycard with customers around the world, and local businesses which issue Barclaycards on behalf of Barclays Retail bank.

Chief Executive Officer, Barclaycard US and Global Cards Head

Previous roles

CEO Barclaycard UK, Business & International

CEO Barclaycard UK

Managing Director Barclaycard UK

Executive Vice President, Travel and Affluent Citigroup

Where have you worked in the past?

Primarily at Citigroup. My last role there was EVP, Travel and Affluent. I was responsible for a couple of co-brands (AAdvantage, Hilton), the Youth and the Affluent segments, a travel product (PremierPass), and a car rewards portfolio (Driver's Edge).

What's the quirkiest job you've ever been in?

I sold bibles door-to-door one summer during college. For a Muslim, that's pretty quirky.

What's your proudest achievement at Barclaycard?

I'm really pleased that the team we put together here was able to turn around the UKC portfolio. It's the first time I know of that a portfolio this big and that complex (and which had been in decline for so long) was turned around successfully, with all key success metrics showing improvement. This is a testament to great teams working effectively across the different business functions.

If you could change one thing about financial services, what would it be?

That we were viewed as trustworthy professionals who provide true value for money. Obviously, we have a long way to go, especially in the UK and the US. But the initiatives we're taking in 2009 around building customer plans will help us start building that trust.

Tell us something about you that would surprise people

I have kids ranging in age from kindergarten to university.
