As the Chief Financial Officer, my role is to lead, motivate and develop a highly talented team that's focused on achieving Barclaycard's financial goals. This involves controlling our risk effectively, providing opportunities for colleagues and giving back to our communities.

We manage the business based on a foundation of accurate, consistent, and effective reporting. My aim is to create an environment where we are collaborative, transparent and have a pragmatic attitude.

Where have you worked in the past?

Over the past 16 years, my international business career has spanned several exciting places like New York, Miami, Sao Paulo, London and Halifax in Yorkshire, England.

Although I started out in manufacturing, I've spent the past 13 years in banking with Citigroup and, most recently, Barclays.

What are your proudest achievements to date?

The best highlights for me have always been the people I've come across. Throughout my career I've been lucky to work with some truly amazing teams.

At Citigroup, I was part of the team that launched the first platinum card in Brazil, doubling Diner's Club sales.

At Barclays, we aggressively built our Retail and Commercial bank franchise over the past three years. By adding over 1,500 new branches and +18m customers, income grew by more than 30%. As a result of great teamwork, we remained capital accretive in every reporting period and always beat analyst expectations.

What gets you up in the morning?

My passion for swimming! I am a lifelong swimmer and occasionally still get up at 5.30 to train.

Where do you get your inspiration?

One of my greatest pleasures is keeping up with people from my past roles and knowing how they're progressing in their personal and professional lives. The interesting conversations we have about what they're doing now really inspire me.

Why did you choose to work for Barclaycard?

Having previously worked for Barclays Global Retail Bank, I got to know Barclaycard well and admired its phenomenal performance as a business.

It's a successful business, with fantastic people and an excellent reputation for being innovative. I'm excited at the great things we can achieve together.

What do you hope colleagues say about you when you're not in the room?

I'd like to think colleagues see me as I really am. Genuine - with an open, positive attitude to life.

Tell us something about you that would surprise people

I was born in Brazil and am fluent in Portuguese. As a result, I'm an avid and passionate supporter of their football team!
