Helping our employees help others

We believe that charity begins at work. So when any of our employees fundraise or volunteer for a cause that's close to their hearts, we give their efforts an extra boost.

We match their fundraising

By donating up to £750 to match the amount that a colleague has been able to fundraise, we support both them and the cause they're passionate about. We do this up to three times a year for everyone who works for us.

Thanks to our matched fundraising policy, our colleagues were able to donate more than £1.9 million to charitable causes in 2009.

We make volunteering easy

With so many talented and compassionate people working for us, our employees are often generous with their time, energy and talents. They regularly carry out voluntary work to improve the lives of others.

Whether they're harnessing marketing, finance, project management or more creative skills for less fortunate people, they have our support to carry out some of these activities during working hours.

How our people have helped:

  • More than 32,500 working hours were spent by our colleagues on voluntary community projects.
  • We supported the fundraising and volunteering efforts of over 4,000 of our employees.
  • Over 55% of our workforce took part in local community projects, with our support.
  • 97% of employees in our United States offices volunteered to teach financial management, mentor school children, support the homeless and help people with disabilities.
  • All our employees in Germany had the chance to take 2 days off for community projects.
  • Barclaycard Germany took home the 2009 Chairman's Award for 'Team Achievement of the Year – Europe' for their work driving record levels of engagement and raising over €28,000 for the charity, Kindertreff Oldenfelde.
  • Seven Community Gifts programmes were completed in 2009 and £220,000 invested in 83 charity projects to benefit around 14,000 people.
