With Horizons, lone parents are not alone

Since we set up Horizons in 2005, we've invested over £7 million and helped more than 450,000 lone parent and their children.

Working with charities Citizens Advice, One Parent Families Scotland, Family Action and Gingerbread, our aim is to 'build a brighter future for lone parent families'. Together we run programmes that give financial advice, offer grants towards training and education costs, and help parents get back to work.

Horizons helps in three ways:

Your Money courses

These free courses, which are provided by twelve Citizens Advice Bureaux across the UK, educate lone parents and frontline workers about managing their finances. They cover a wide range of topics including household budgeting, choosing credit, managing debt, dealing with loans, Child Trust Funds and more.

Your Education

Your Education has been developed with Family Action to ease the financial cost of training by helping with fees, childcare costs, materials and travel expenses.

To date, over £1 million has already been distributed in grants.

Your Work

We run Your Work programmes with Gingerbread, offering advice and support for lone parents about returning to the workplace, as well as two weeks of work experience. These free three-week programmes are located in London, Northampton, Liverpool, Stockton, Glasgow, Cardiff, Washington Upon Tyne and Basildon.

If your company is able to offer work experience to a lone parent, Gingerbread would appreciate your help.
