Germany was the first country we set up an office in outside the UK. Since establishing our brand in 1991, we've grown rapidly to become a leading credit card issuer in Germany, issuing more than 1.4 million cards.

Despite being a leading player in the market, we remain competitive, compassionate and considerate to our customers.

Our offices and people

We have 450 employees who work in the same building - located in Hamburg. Our German office has a great community spirit, with staff getting time off during working hours to volunteer locally. There's even a Community Team that was set up in 2001. It now has 20 members and 206 supporters whose altruism has helped countless disadvantaged people.

Products and services

We offer seven credit cards and several reward programmes for both personal and commercial customers. For easy account management, they can take advantage of online account services and our market-leading SMS service which sends them information at no extra cost.

With all Barclaycard credit cards issued in Germany, you get:

• Barclaycard-Prinzip – a unique payment feature that only we offer, in the German market.
• 5-star security - this includes a 24 hour emergency hotline, extra security against credit card fraud, emergency assistance when travelling, security for internet deliveries and online account services.

Personal products

In addition to Visa and MasterCard solutions, we're the only lender in Germany that offers a combined Visa and MasterCard credit card. This unique combination, which includes widely used ec/Maestro cards, gives customers the convenience of being able to use their Barclaycard virtually anywhere in the country.

In 2008, we expanded our product range to include loans which have proved to be very popular, especially with self-employed customers. We've also created 'Back to Work' insurance, an innovative way to help people who are between jobs.
