Barclaycard in the United States
Barclaycard was first established in the United States in 2004, when we bought the Juniper Financial Corporation. Juniper was a thriving business, built on strong partnerships with well-known US companies, and we've continued to emulate this successful business model.
By following in Juniper's tradition as a company with fresh ideas that empathises with customers, we're now the country's 9th largest credit card issuer. That's according to the Nilson Report, published in August 2009.
Our North American business grew by 57% between June 2008 and June 2009, making it the fastest growing company in the top 10 card issuers.
Our offices and people
We have two offices in the US, both in Wilmington, Delaware. Our headquarters are located in the Juniper building on the riverfront, with over 1,400 employees. Literally down the road are our second offices, in the Dryrock building.
A passion to reduce our impact on the environment unites us all. For instance, our riverfront office was a derelict building that we salvaged. And our Dryrock premises feature an innovative 'green rooftop' that's filled with plants to help reduce CO2. We also encourage staff to recycle a wide selection of materials using facilities that we provide.
